The figures at the top of the Tags Tree bug has been fixed in Word/Office 2013! Huge “woo hoo!”
Both tools use the latest specs for PdF Tags. I didn’t notice any difference between the two tools and have used the Office add-in exclusively for the past two years. It is just so easy to F12 and choose PDF as the file type. For each document you do have to go into the Options for PDF and choose to have headings converted to Bookmarks…but you just have to do this once for each document.
I now have Acrobat Pro DC so will be looking at any differences in tagging. I’m also using PAC to check for PDF/UA compliance.
Always ready to plunge into the deep end of the technology tools…Karen

Howard,
When I have used the Word plugin, all headings, tables, languages, alt text, etc. have gone over. The only thing I noticed is that the graphics sometimes get put at the top of the reading order so they are read first (with alt text) before the text. Visually they stay in place, but the reading order is off.
I have not tried the converter so cannot address that one for you.

(Note: I also posted this on the WebAIM list)
I've noticed there are two contradictory views regarding PDFMaker vs. the Word/Office Add-in for Office 2010 and 2013. I've heard from some folks that the Word Add-in works fine and just as well as the PDFMaker Add-in. On the WebAIM site (http://webaim.org/techniques/acrobat/converting), they state, regarding the Word Add-in that:
The tagging process may not be quite as good as with the Adobe add-in, but most content, such as heading levels, lists, and alternative text for images is exported.
Is the above the general consensus or is this still up for debate. I'd like to know how strongly to recommend PDFMaker over the native Word Add-in.
Thanks in advance,
Howard
