[Athen] BrailleNote and editing Google Docs

Krista et al Athenites,

It is my understanding that will Google Docs may, for all intents and purposes, look like a Microsoft Word document, and therefore we assume it can be handled, edited, revised, and resaved as a Microsoft Word document. The Google Doc, however, is only a shell of the Microsoft word document. The only way I have found to manipulate any data in a Google doc is to download it into a Microsoft document, do whatever editing needs to be done, upload it back to Google Docs as a new document. The "Excel" spreadsheet in Google behaves the same way – it is not truly an accessible document (in either sense of the word – you cannot edit the data, and you cannot easily or at all use adaptive software to do it).

The best suggestion in being able to take advantage of the Google Drive in terms of being able to share documents with the team is to download the Google Doc, work it, work it, work it, and upload it or drop it back into the Google drive folder. That would allow not only the ability to edit the documents and make additions to the documents, but would also allow the use of the adaptive software/hardware to do it.

My thoughts and a cold Wednesday near the end of 2015.

Happies and Merries,

Wink

Subject: [Athen] BrailleNote and editing Google Docs

Cross posting apologies.

My BrailleNote user just tested reading Google Docs and editing Google Docs. This is their experience this morning.

“My review:

1. Yes I can read google docs documents.

2. No I cannot edit them within traditional means. What I mean is that according to the rules of google docs, or what google calls google drive these days, you should be able to edit the document strait from google itself. I cannot do this. However, I have a work around. Since I can read it I can copy and paste it into another document which means that I can then edit the document from keyword then email it back to my teamates who can then put it in the document.”

Any additional insights about how to use BrailleNote to edit Google Docs without the work around?

Krista
