Subject: Accessible Campus Maps

Hi DSSHE peeps:

Our office has been tasked with investigating and implementing accessible campus maps, which we are gleefully obliging. The push is stemming from a sidewalk conversation between one of our blind students and the University President, who is now eager to ensure our campus is more accessible to blind and visually impaired students! WOO HOO! And holy accessible maps Batman, what do we do now?!!

So, we are looking at accessible GPS mapping, specifically for blind and visually impaired individuals, that can be accessed by a variety of mobile devices. I'm hoping to gather information on how this can be achieved, by what platform (google maps??) and how much....Has anyone embarked on this particular journey on their campus?

I was able to pull some information out of the archives and Kaela Parks had great information on PCC's "way finding effort" earlier this year. I think we are looking towards something similar to their online maps, but with more campus navigation....

Hoping to pitch ideas to the President (yeah, we're buds now) here shortly, any input or guidance would be fantastic!
