[Athen] PDF alt Text in browser

>From what I've observed, depending on the browser and the screen-reader, more often than not the PDF is seriously disrupted by the in-browser PDF display mechanism. I usually advise screen-reader users to download and save the PDF, then open it directly in Adobe Reader.

Can screen readers read ALT text in PDFs opened within the web browser? It seems not, but I wanted to double check.
