[Athen] Table headings in GoogleDocs?

Hi Susan!

There currently is no way to mark headings in a Google Docs table. I was
at CSUN this year and because I found this curious, I stopped by the Google
booth to ask someone about this.

What I found out is when you make a table in Google Docs, it automatically
designates both the top row and the first column as table headings. The
person I spoke with created a quick table and then had ChromeVox read it
and indeed, it did read the cells in the top row and the first column as
table headings. Mileage may vary depending on various browser/assistive
technology combinations.

There is no way to alter this currently so I suggest only using tables in
Google Docs that use the the first row and the first column for table
headings or the table may not make sense to a screen reader user.
