Julia,
Still better support for math on Windows. At my last testing, OSX was only supporting speech for MathML in Safare.
Your options are:
NVDA + MathPlayer + Microsoft Word (if math was created in Word using mathType and not the standard Microsoft equation editor)
NVDA + Firefox + Math Player with either native MathML support in Firefox or via use of MathJax
JAWS 17 + IE11 or Firefox+ MathML + MathJax
In any case, some work will be needed in production of the material. In all cases output has robust speech and mostly accurate nemeth braille. (I say mostly because we have observed at least one reproducible bug in nemeth output from both NVDA and JAWS that appears to be in the braille output engine).
Best,

Subject: [Athen] Math on a Mac -- updates? Is Office 2016 an option?

Hi everyone,
A question came up from a student re: using a Mac and VoiceOver and reading/writing stats homework (e.g. for a statistics course)? Here's what I've gathered so far from previous mailouts and asking :

* Accessibility office creates HTML files in MathML (I'm asking for more info on this)

* Student reads using VoiceOver and Safari for iOS EXCEPT brackets and parentheses aren't read which is a huge issue - I think this is the combo is the only solution suggested on the Math Support Finder http://msf.mathmlcloud.org/

* Best combination is on Windows determined is Windows + NVDA + Mathplayer + FireFox (and incorporating a link to the MAthjax library in the HTML code - though I'm not entirely sure what this means)

Some questions:

* Any updates to this? Likely not since the last emails on this list were only a few months ago

* Has anyone tried out Office 2016 for Mac yet? We don't have it, but it's supposed to be accessible to VoiceOver, though I'm not sure if that includes equations and also not sure how efficient that would be on its own.

Thanks,
Julia
