[Athen] Alt text locked? on MS Word for Mac 2011

I have seen this in Word for PC, when a document is in compatibility mode (in other words, the file extension is .doc instead of .docx). The alt text option for tables is simply not available, and there’s no indication of where it might have gone. It’s very frustrating on first encounter.
If you save the .doc as .docx, the settings become available.
