EASI Online Course: Barrier-free E-learning

Month-long, online, asynchronis course based on the book: ‘Making Online
Teaching Accessible’

(Sory for duplicate postings)

Learning management systems are being used more and more both for
distance learners and to support courses taught on campus. These systems
are becoming accessible and, at the same time, provide help for faculty
providers to create their content in an accessible format. The course
will assist colleges in making a level learning space for all students.


Course outline:


Lesson 1 Introduction to Online Learning and to Learning

Part 1: Creating a Level Learning Space: Accessibility and Usability

Part 3: Issues Common to Most Learning Management Systems


Lesson 2: creating accessible content with MS office (word,
PowerPoint and Excel)

Part 1: Structured documents

part 2: Understanding and modifying the style feature in Word

Part 3 Creating a Table of Contents and Providing Alternate Text for Images

Part 4: Designing accessible PowerPoint presentations

Part 5:PowerPoint Features to Use and Avoid

Part 6: Excel


Lesson 3: Creating Accessible content for STEM and for Multimedia

Part 1: Problems and Solutions in Creating Accessible STEM Electronic

Part 2: Problems representing scientific and technical diagrams

Part 3 Providing Synchronized Captions for an Accessible Video

Lesson 4: Supporting and Managing Online Accessibility

Part 1: Create an interdepartmental team to support online students with
disabilities

Part 2: Develop written policies and procedures on Accessibility that
include accountability

Part 3: Provide on-going training for faculty and staff
