Definition
Under direction, coordinates and schedules the interpreting services for
deaf and hard of hearing students, participates in interpreting educational
and general information exchanged in an educational setting by using manual
and oral methods of communication for the deaf and hard of hearing.

Examples of Duties/ Essential Job Functions
Coordinates interpreting services for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students,
including administration of all interpreting services.
Coordinates and schedules the interpreting services for deaf and hard of
hearing students for classes, meetings, and student activities.
Maintains daily, weekly and monthly work schedule for interpreters and
identifies on-call interpreters as necessary.
Resolves problems and provides interventions or solutions when interpreting
problems arise within the assignment.
Assists with the testing, interviewing, and recommends selection of
interpreter staff.
Provides oversight for sign language interpreters and interns, including
providing hands-on training and feedback, conducting on-going observation of
employees in various settings, and assigning work.
Assesses the needs of deaf and hard of hearing students and level of
difficulty in course content and assigns appropriate interpreters.
Interprets and translates classroom lectures simultaneously, facilitates
communication between deaf and hard-of-hearing students and faculty, staff
and students in classrooms at all levels, meetings, activities, and
emergencies on campus.
Provides interpreting support to students with disabilities, orients
students to policies and procedures for obtaining interpreting services, and
follows counselor approved accommodations.
Assigns and coordinates sign language interpreters, real-time captioners,
and c-print captionists to deaf and hard of hearing students as approved by
the counselor.
Interviews deaf and hard of hearing students who utilize sign language as a
primary mode of communication to obtain information required to develop
appropriate interpreting service delivery plans to accommodate individual
student needs as approved by counselor.
Assists counselor with outreach efforts to potential and current deaf and
hard of hearing students.
Works closely with the administration, faculty and staff to coordinate
activities and services for deaf and hard of hearing students.
Maintains current working knowledge of a variety of complex regulations,
requirements, and policies related to the Sign Language Interpreter
profession and Disabled Student Programs and Services.
Maintains awareness of new developments in the field of interpreting
services and implements changes as appropriate.
Maintains accurate and confidential records of students served, documents
services provided and provides continuous updates to the counselor as
appropriate.
Develops forms, handbooks, manuals, and other written materials related to
interpreting services.
Maintains files and materials on technical sign vocabulary to assist
interpreters working in specialized subject areas.
Extracts, organizes, and analyzes data from computer system, troubleshoots
and corrects errors, researches and organizes information to produce
technical reports in compliance with applicable laws and district
procedures.
Assists with planning and monitoring budgets.
Performs other duties as assigned.
