Our institution has purchased Ally and Instructional Media expects a summer deployment of this feature! We watched the demo that was provided by Bb, and it seems great. We shall soon see how well it works.

Heidi,

Awareness is the first step.
Without accessibility feedback there is plausible deniability that I didn’t know there was an accessibility issue.
It is a lot harder to deny the issues when there is contrary data.

Hi Jon,
I agree that getting instructors to change is the biggest step. Hopefully the construct of Ally will help with the process of increased awareness and behavioral change.

Heidi,

I think Blackboard A11y will be great for raising awareness of accessibility issues and bring some data to the problem of accessibility, and I am hoping the University of Illinois will purchase the feature.
But it is just the first step, the real work will be getting instructors to change behavior to adopt accessible authoring practices and hopefully help higher education pressure authoring tool vendors to support accessibility during the original authoring practices, rather than relying on error reports and remediation.

Jon

Hi Lorraine,
If anyone else has any insights to Ally, I'd also be very interested.

I believe that the cost is based upon a formula (possibly number of student at an institution, Bb components, etc). I don't remember exactly, but I do remember it's based on aspects of the institution.
We are looking at Ally. Had a demo meeting that was very impressive - especially with features that they expect to have in place by the end of the year. We are waiting for further info and hope to have a sandbox in which we can do some testing.
It looks almost too good to be true - just hoping that's not the case!
Kind regards,
Heidi
