[Athen] Concourse

I evaluated a template Concourse made for us - their 508 compliant one - in Aug 2017. If you are only looking at presenting a syllabus, it seems appropriate, especially if your syllabus is text only. But if you are considering "authoring accessibility," then some remediation is needed. For example, in the template you can add a 'description' in an element, such as an image. But that description does not become its accessible name [alt={description}", aria-label="{description}]. So the fallback would be unassociated text that accompanies the image. If using as a content management system, not being able to add the accessible attributes to content is serious and takes more QA work before publishing, especially if you wanted to repurpose content. Another example, using assistive tech to create the syllabus would not be 100% effective. It has some mouse dependent features.

Their leadership was very interested in the feedback and seemed willing to put it on their roadmap. They also were interested in 508 adopting WCAG.

Subject: [Athen] Question re Syllabus Management SaaS

Hi all -

Does anyone out there have experience using Intellidemia's Concourse Syllabus Management?
They claim that their cloud-based solution "is built and tested from the ground up to support Section 508 compliance."
https://www.intellidemia.com/

If anyone has used it, I'd love to know how it's going. Feel free to contact me personally instead of on-list, if you prefer.

We're already using Digarc's Acalog for our course catalog and policy manuals, and I'm wondering whether Concourse would simplify the accessibility aspects of our syllabi, in a similar way.

Best,
Chris
