Job Description
The Office of Disability Access (ODA) at the University of North Texas is seeking to hire an Assistant Director, Accessible Instruction and Assistive Technology to join our team.

This position requires a highly specialized set of knowledge and skills necessary to oversee ODA text conversion, implement assistive technology in the disability accommodation process, work with faculty and other campus partners to ensure access in online/distance courses, supervise staff who coordinate various aspects of making instruction accessible, and provide case management to a caseload of students. Responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:

* Supervise the areas and staff who coordinate the production and acquisition of accessible alternative formats; assistive technology and equipment inventory along with check-out and check-in process; note-taker program; and interpreting/transcription services.
* Supervise and participate with ODA staff that conduct student registration meetings, review disability documentation, and assess the interaction of the student's disability with the environment to coordinate reasonable accommodations.
* Direct oversight of text conversion process with external vendors and provide students with the converted documents in a timely manner and in accordance with federal disability law.
* Assists with revision and development of policies and procedures in areas of supervision.
* Research and implement best practices and advances in alternative format production and assistive technology.
* Work collaboratively with campus computer labs ensuring they are equipped with adaptive software and hardware to meet students' accessibility needs.
* Manage caseload of students, e.g. accommodation coordination, referral to resources, advising, and course registration.
* Provide office support in keeping up-to-date with trends in ADA compliance, social justice, universal design, and accommodation issues.
* Provide university-wide consultation, education, and training on the social construction of disability and the intersections of disability with social, educational, technological, and physical environments.

Minimum Qualifications
The successful candidate will possess the following required qualifications:

Master's Degree in related field and four years of professional related experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience.


Preferred Qualifications
The preferred candidate will possess the following additional qualifications:

* Master's degree in rehabilitation counseling, counseling, instructional design, computer science, special education, access technology, education or a related field.
* Three years of progressively responsible experience related to assistive technology and alternative format production including two years of supervisory experience.
* Experience providing services to students with disabilities in postsecondary education.
* Knowledge of laws involving students with disabilities, assistive technology and copyright issues (ADA, 504, 508, FERPA, etc.).
* Experience assisting and training college students, faculty, and staff.
