[Athen] Accessible alternatives for Codecademy?

I understand from fellow blind programmers that Free Code Camp,
https://www.freecodecamp.org/  is a usable resource. I've not used it myself
and don't' know if it has Python but may be worth checking.

Disclaimer: This may be a bit of a reach and not as easy to start as
Codecademy. There is a website/mentor program called exercism.io
<https://exercism.io/tracks/python>  may be an accessible solution. The
advantage it has is that it does not use a web-browser based coding
interface. Instead, it uses real-world applications (Command Line, Python
software, and Notepad++ or Text Wrangler) to complete coding lessons, as
well as a GitHub account. It does take some set-up to do the exercises. The
advantage is it really does prepare people for working with code in real
applications. Codecademy is good at teaching syntax and troubleshooting with
easy-to-digest lessons. Exercism is more complex, and requires some more
advanced installation and usage.

 

Another tool you could look at is learnpython.org
<https://www.learnpython.org/> . I honestly don't know if it's any better
than codecademy, but it's worth a look.

Hello everyone,

 

We have a student enrolling in a computer programming course next semester,
and the instructor has indicated that he utilizes Codecademy for part of the
lessons, though he is willing to use an alternative. We are wondering if any
of you fine folks have any suggestions on accessible alternatives.
Specifically, the instructor is using it for learning Python.
