You can save as a mp4 or wmv file directly in powerpoint, then caption as you normally would. I noticed you either could record the video or have the auto captions, not seemingly both this morning.

Subject: [Athen] FW: Captioning PowerPoint recordings with narration

Hi all,

Crossposting from ITACCESS, so my apologies for any duplicate emails.

Does anyone know how to add captions into a PowerPoint file where the instructor used the “Record Slide Show” feature to add narration?

I see that there is now a machine-generated live captioning option in PowerPoint under the Slide Show tab in the Ribbon, which is great, but doesn’t seem to be the function I need. When I select the audio clip on a particular slide, the Audio Format and Playback tabs appear, but I can’t find any captioning options there either.

The clunky workaround I’m toying with at the moment is just using a screen capture tool to do a screen recording of each PowerPoint recording, so that I can create an actual video file that I could add captions to.

Thank you,
Laura
