Perspectives on Access: Innovations, Lessons Learned, and Looking Forward

April 6 to 9, 2021


Each year, the CUNY Accessibility Conference brings together hundreds of participants from the New York City region and across North America to discuss accessibility, disability services and disability activism in the context of postsecondary education.



A year after the start of an unprecedented pandemic and resultant pivot to remote learning nationwide, the conference theme for 2020 is Perspectives on Access: Innovations, Lessons Learned, and Looking Forward. With this theme we hope to reflect on the past year of innovation, the lessons we've learned about access in the digital space and what we will take from all of our experiences into the future of accessibility,  the provision of remote services to our students with disabilities and the promotion of digital inclusion for all, regardless of ability.



We invite proposals for engaging presentations that will foster meaningful discussion on topics including, but not limited to:

*       Preparing for the future of mass online learning that embraces accessibility for all

*       Delivering culturally responsive accessible student services remotely

*       Strategies for mitigating the digital divide

*       Promoting and facilitating accessibility across all institutional functions

*       Fostering new forms of social engagement for students with disabilities

*       Implementing accessible digital tools and supports for online learning

*       New best digital practices for a post-pandemic era

*       Innovative processes for remote student disability services

*       Virtually supporting students' emotional and psychological well-being

*       Novel digital accommodations for students with disabilities

*       Impacts, both short- and long-term, of the pandemic on the disabled community in higher education



 Proposal Submission

Proposals are due by February 16th, 2021 at 12:00pm. Abstracts should be no more than 500 words. Presentations will be 50 minutes, including time for questions and answers.

We are particularly interested in detailed proposals for presentations that:

*       Seek to engage the audience via remote platforms (discussions, breakout rooms, surveys/polls, collaborative tools, etc.)

*       Feature cross-disciplinary work
