Hello,

I just learned about a new web service called Audiom. "Audiom is a browser
based inclusive map system that utilizes Open Street Map data in ways that
allow the user to explore the world around them in a manner that provides
more information than what can be parsed by a screen reader by itself". This
is a really exciting project with many potential benefits for colleges and
universities. It's primary function is in providing a browser-based
accessible map of an area that a screen reader user can explore using their
keyboard. It is self-voicing, but provides the option to use your screen
reader's synthesized speech. According to the podcast file (available at:
https://www.blindbargains.com/bargains.php?m=22493) the software is in Beta
and the developers are looking for businesses such as colleges and
universities to partner with them to create accessible audio maps of their
campus and buildings. The Audiom web site is www.audiom.net
<http://www.audiom.net> . There is an interactive demo of Audiom on their
web site, along with recorded demonstrations.

In addition, it sounds like Audiom can also be used for audio
representations of graph data. There is a demo of this on their web site as
well.

Theoretically, if several campuses start partnering with this company,
Audiom could be a great solution to some of the questions that have been
posed on this listserv over the years; specifically campus
mapping/navigation for blind students and accessible data visualizations.
