Job Title: Deputy ADA Coordinator
Department: Office of Institutional Equity | ADA Coordinator

Job Description:

Under the direction of the ADA Coordinator & 504 Compliance Officer, the Deputy ADA Coordinator for Digital Accessibility will lead the university's digital accessibility compliance efforts while exercising a high level of decision making and autonomy; provide strategic leadership, oversight, and technical advice to campus units in developing and implementing policy requirements such as digital access strategies, reporting, training, and purchasing standards/controls; maintain and advise on changes to the Ohio State Minimum Digital Accessibility Standards, which are implementation guidelines for the Ohio State Digital Accessibility Policy; in collaboration with partners in the Office of the CIO, Office of Distance Education and eLearning, Office of Marketing and Communications, and other campus units, leads the evaluation of high risk digital information and services being developed, considered for purchase, or implemented on campus for compliance with the university's Digital Accessibility Policy; assists campus units in understanding their obligations under the policy, and guides developers and vendors of digital content, services, and applications on accessible design and development practices; in collaboration with the Director of Disability Service, promptly responds to complaints or issues (both formal and informal) regarding digital information or services that the University is responsible for under the Digital Accessibility Policy; responsible for supervising additional specialist support staff who will support Ohio State digital accessibility initiatives; leads selection and implementation of campus-wide accessibility tools and training; maintains knowledge of current and emerging accessible development practices and trends; serves as primary representative to the Big Ten Academic Alliance Information Technology Accessibility Group and other appropriate industry organizations.



Required:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Management Information Systems or related field. OR an equivalent combination of education and experience; at least 7 years of experience producing accessible websites, native applications, or evaluating products for digital accessibility; extensive experience in systems design, analysis and implementation of large scale, technical projects; considerable knowledge of national industry trends in accessibility; strong understanding of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, WAI-ARIA, the W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, and Section 508 requirements. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must be a motivated self-starter and be able to work independently with minimal oversight. Deep understanding of tools to aid in accessibility evaluation. Experience testing for accessibility barriers in Web, Mobile, and Native applications. Experience leading or guiding the development of accessible digital content, websites, web applications, or native mobile applications. Significant knowledge of current and emerging accessible development practices and assistive technologies, web and application development trends, and digital accessibility regulatory issues as they relate to higher education.



Desired:

Master's degree in a related field, OR equivalent combination of education and experience; 8-10 years of experience producing high quality accessible websites, native applications, or evaluating products for digital accessibility; an understanding and passion for accessibility issues. Significant front end web development experience; experience working with people with disabilities; experience using assistive technologies; experience planning and leading technical training sessions; experience in regulatory compliance; an understanding of UDL and instructional design; experience leading technical teams.


Duties:

30% Lead digital accessibility compliance efforts: Provide strategic leadership, oversight, and technical advice to campus units in developing and implementing policy requirements; Advise on updates to the Ohio State Digital Accessibility Policy; Maintain and advise on changes to the Ohio State Minimum Digital Accessibility Standards.



30% Lead the Digital Accessibility Center: Respond to complaints or issues regarding digital information or services that the University is responsible for under the Digital Accessibility Policy; Assist in the planning/implementation of staff/student digital accommodation; Supervise specialist support staff and student employees within the Digital Accessibility Center; Review digital accessibility policy exception/waiver requests; Lead selection and implementation of campus-wide accessibility tools and training.



25% Act as subject matter expert: Assists campus units in understanding their obligations under policy, and guide developers and vendors of digital content, services, and applications on accessible design and development practices; Evaluate high risk digital information and services being developed, considered for purchase, or implemented on campus for compliance with the university's Digital Accessibility Policy; Maintain knowledge of current and emerging accessible development practices and trends.



15% Assist ADA Coordinator and deputies with general accommodations, compliance, and general administrative tasks; Other duties as assigned.



Proposed salary range is $116,000 - $123,000
