[Athen] Video downloader for captioning files?

I use 4K Video Downloader for YouTube videos. For anything online that I can't download, I typically record via Zoom and do some minor editing before uploading it to our captioning provider. I have access to the admin side of Kaltura so I can download videos there (Kaltura management console). Before I had access to download content directly from Kaltura I sometimes had to get faculty to either make me a co-editor of the video or have them set the video to be downloadable (not always easy or fast).

My Zoom recording process:

* Start a Zoom meeting with muted microphone and video off
* Share my screen (typically to a browser window) and set the screen share to optimize for video sharing and sharing computer audio
* Record the meeting
* Play the video
* When the video is done, end the recording and end the meeting.
This way I can still use my computer as long as I'm careful not to disturb the meeting. I can also mute my computer audio so I don't have to listen to whatever I'm recording. I also use this process to record podcast audio for podcasts that need transcripts.

This message originated from outside the Ithaca College email system.

Hello Dawn,

I use Parallels on my Mac. There's a video downloader and a screen recorder as a backup.

I was using DownloadThemAll<https://nam10.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Faddons.mozilla.org%2Fen-US%2Ffirefox%2Faddon%2Fdownthemall%2F&data=05%7C01%7Cvober%40ithaca.edu%7Cd4ec776db3c04d417c5d08db353af19e%7Cfa1ac8f65e5448579f0b4aa422c09689%7C0%7C0%7C638162299508413967%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C3000%7C%7C%7C&sdata=0TEnaoC7sMVfDxmFg1rLnEOhCAjwVhIeG3KzFw1NrGc%3D&reserved=0> (PC) on the Firefox browser, but it would work/not work depending on the innovation of web developers preventing third parties from downloading their videos. They had an update in Feb, so it's still being worked on.

I have a contact on our Kaltura team to gain access to videos. No download tools work with Kaltura that I'm aware of. Screen recording could be done, but that would mean I wouldn't have access to my machine while it's recording the video.

We would then share the video file via box.com with CART teams.

Best,

Hi all,

We are exploring video downloaders and looking for solutions that aren't based in China, Russia, etc. We currently use Wondershare to download videos for courses in order to create captions.

What options are you using to download videos from all of the usual video streaming platforms?

Thanks!

Dawn
