Just an FYI: Math Jax relies/relied on MathPlayer to render a usable screen
reader output in HTML/MML.MathPlayer was discontinued a number of years ago
when Wiris bought out Design Science and is no longer supported. There are
other methods currently available for conversion of math to a screen-reader
friendly accessible format. As an example, Neil Soifferis working on the
development and roll-out of his MathCat app which essentially replaces and
improves on MathPlayer.
The original poster's question wasn't about conversion to any alternative
format, but only about the cost of a math authoring program such as
MathType.
