[Athen] Accessing Higher Ground - Alternate Format/Media Intensive

Hello, all.

Accessing Higher Ground in Denver is approaching quickly!  November will be here before we know it.  I thought I'd bring your attention to my pre-conference session, covering both days (November 6-7).  I will be doing an Alternate Format Intensive - two days of nuts bolts of acquiring, managing, and producing alternate format/media for students with print disabilities.  I have presented at the pre-conference for many years, taking over the role that the late Ron Stewart and retired Gaier Dietrich used to have.  The pre-conference will lead you through all of the steps needed to run a tight ship that produces excellent quality alternate format/media for your students. You will receive a copy of my latest Alternate Format Production Manual, and many templates and resources you can use to build or enhance your own process.

I will cover the following production processes:


  *   PDF remediation
  *   Conversion to accessible Word files
  *   Working with Bookshare files
  *   Conversion to HTML files
  *   Creation of Math using Mathtype in Word and output to MathML
  *   Conversion of accessible Word files to Braille

I will also be covering the following administrative processes:

  *   Student Alternate Format Consultations
  *   Student request process, including tracking
  *   Acquiring files from publishers
  *   Tracking and managing those files through the production process
  *   "Closing the loop" on student requests - providing files/hard copies and closing out requests

This pre-conference session is recommended for those who are new or up to intermediate alternate format producers.  There is always much to learn.
