[Athen] AccessText News

I'm no legal expert either, but I do feel as though ATN was a bit
different, as it seemed to be a collaboration with publishers.

I feel as though this particular issue has more to do with library lending
than it does with ADA protections, but I agree that it doesn't bode well
for the future of access to information as a whole.

However, this type of ruling does still directly impact us. Being able to
digitally access library materials is a great resource for book conversion,
cutting down time required for scanning or being able to acquire better
quality in the case of course readers.

Pardon my ignorance, but is there any decentralized (non-institutional)
entity that works to conserve and protect these types of access-related
tools that are so useful to our work? I personally am feeling the loss of
several excellent resources over the last 10 years, and much seems
precariously perched on the shoulders of large (and sometimes fickle)
institutions.
