[Athen] Options Other Than Dragon with Math Talk?

Hi Ali

A heads up to all on the listserv who have not heard the news: Metroplex
Voice Computing went out of business a number of years ago, and Math Talk
with Scientific Notebook used with Dragon NaturallySpeaking is no longer
available.

The only speech to text and math that I am aware of is the Equatio
application through Text Help. I am not sure how mouse dependent Equatio
is for someone with limited or no mobility with their hands.

I am normally the bearer of solutions to this listserv, but this is one
that I do not have an answer for. Perhaps someone else on the list is aware
of some up-and-coming technology that will work for math dictation.

Otherwise, I would highly recommend your student invests the time and
training needed with Dragon NaturallySpeaking. There are training workbooks
available. 2 major advantages over any of the other dictation applications
that are available is that Dragon NaturallySpeaking allows for voice
navigation as well as offers a MouseGrid on the screen which allows the
voice to move the mouse. Feel free to contact me off list if you need more
information about Dragon NaturallySpeaking. With some dedicated practice –
20 minutes a day for 2 weeks or so – the student can become relatively
adept at the program, will be able to create a voice profile, will be able
to complete training in simple to moderately complex dictation, learn how
to edit & correct misrecognitions, how to train new vocabulary words, and
how to use the MouseGrid.

Hope this information is helpful, although the news about Metroplex Voice
Computing going out of business is not good news.

This email was dictated using Dragon NaturallySpeaking. Please forgive
quirks, misrecognitions, or errata .
