Assistive Technology Specialist





Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi is seeking qualified candidates for
the position of Assistive Technology Specialist. Texas A&M
University-Corpus Christi is a comprehensive University with 8,500
students. The University is located on Corpus Christi Bay, adjacent to
the Gulf of Mexico. The University is one of the fastest growing
institutions in Texas. The University is a hub for coastal, marine and
environmental research. It has five colleges, Liberal Arts, Business,
Education, Nursing & Health Sciences and Science & Technology. The
University competes in 14 NCAA Division I sports.







The Assistive Technology Specialist will coordinate assistive technology

(AT) accommodations for students with disabilities. The AT Specialist
will supervise student workers performing various duties including
alternate text format production and basic tech support for Disability
Services; assess appropriate individual AT needs and train students with
disabilities to use AT available on campus; develop and implement AT
needs assessment for students with disabilities receiving academic
accommodations; create individual and group AT training on appropriate
AT for students with disabilities; evaluate effectiveness of assessment
and training; promote University-wide access to assistive technology and
computer-aided learning technology for students with disabilities and
faculty; collaborate with the Department of Media, Computer, and
Telecommunication Services and Academic Departments to create a
University AT plan for campus; develop accessible Web format policies in
collaboration with the web coordinators across campus; coordinate with
Academic Departments to ensure classroom accessibility; review new AT
technologies and recommend upgrades as appropriate; develop and present
faculty and staff AT training; assist faculty in developing accessible
technologies for classroom use; promote universal design of classroom
materials; and serve as accessibility liaison for accessible technology

on campus.







Required: Bachelor's degree in Computer Information Science, Special or
Assistive Rehab Technology, Special Education, or closely related field.

A minimum of one (1) year related experience. A working knowledge of

ADA/504 and 508 applicable federal and state laws. Demonstrated ability
to determine appropriate accommodations for university students with
disabilities. Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal and
presentation skills.







Preferred: Master's degree. University experience preferred.

Experience determining and coordinating accommodations and related
services for individuals with disabilities within a post-secondary
environment. One year experience working with assistive technology and
adaptive equipment including, but not limited to: JAWS, ABBYY
FineReader, ZoomText, and Dragon Naturally Speaking. Familiarity with a
wide range of disabilities, documentation and appropriate
accommodations.
