Posting Title: Associate Director, Disabled Student Services



Department: Disabled Student Services, CSU, Long Beach



Time Base/Hours/Units per Week: Full-time/40 hours per week. Some evenings
and weekends required.



Position Description: The Associate Director provides leadership and
direction for management of day-to-day services provided by Disabled Student
Services (DSS), including some supervision of Support Services, Stephen
Benson Learning Disability Program, AIM Center, Autism Spectrum Services,
and WorkAbility IV Program.



Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Thorough knowledge of ADA, Section 504, 508,
and laws and regulations pertaining to students with disabilities.
Understanding of the practice of providing reasonable accommodations for
students with disabilities. Ability to demonstrate a vision for effective
and creative DSS program development. Excellent leadership skills to lead
and manage a complex department. Excellent time management skills. Excellent
public speaking and presentation skills. Excellent organizational,
administrative, and communication skills with the ability to effectively
handle a broad range of interpersonal contacts with individuals or groups
from different socioeconomic and diverse backgrounds, including parents,
staff, peers, administrators, Campus personnel, clients, state/school
officials, various agencies, and the public. Ability to take initiative and
independently plan, organize, coordinate, and perform work in various
situations where numerous and diverse demands are involved. Strong time and
project management skills. Proven ability to learn, interpret, apply, and
develop a wide variety of university policies and procedures relating to
field administration standards, policies, and issues. Skill in interpreting,
developing, implementing, and assuring compliance with office and University
policies and procedures while maintaining good working relationships with
staff at all levels within and external to the University. Excellent
grammar, writing, and editing skills to compose and proofread professional
level copy of letters, proposals, reports, meeting notes, and announcements.
Demonstrated skill in conducting research, developing reports, and
presenting findings. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Skill in working
independently with minimal direction, in setting priorities and schedules,
and in identifying and adhering to departmental objectives. Strong problem
solving skills. Ability to provide excellent customer service.



Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus
community. Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and
guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information
security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures. Ability to
contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student,
and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of
excellence."



Education and Experience: Equivalent to a bachelor's degree in a related
field and minimum of three years' experience in related field required.
Master's Degree preferred, preferably in Counseling, Special Education or
Higher Education Administration. Minimum of three to five years of
experience working with college students with disabilities. Doctorate degree
highly preferred. Experience working in a multicultural environment.
Experience supervising professional staff preferred.
