I offered to ask Microsoft about this ability at the last call as both Zoom
and Webex have APIs for assisting on this. I had a few false starts until I
reached out to the Microsoft disability services help desk. They were very
responsive.



They confirmed I was not the first to ask, especially since the pandemic
started. And it is under investigation by engineering. They normally
recommend the built in ASR live captioning but noted “ If you would still
want to leverage CART/human-generated captions, you can invite a captioner
to the meeting, and they’d be able to caption into a separate window.” I
asked for an example and the reply was “this is typically provided by a
captioning service. A group I have worked with in the past leverages the
StreamText <https://streamtext.net/> web interface. “



To me this is a work around, but I thought I would share. And likely there
are other ways as well.



And in case you are not aware, they also do regular webinars wrt Microsoft
and accessibility: aka.ms/AccessibilityWebinars . Friday for example, is on
ASL usage and Teams
