The Center for Accessible Technology, in Berkeley, California, is seeking
candidates for the position of Executive Director. Those of you who are
local may be aware that our Executive Director Dmitri Belser passed away
earlier this year ( there will be a memorial in September at the Ed Roberts
Campus – let me know if you need more information). I have attached the
posting for the position as a Word document, or the same information is
available through the links below.

For folks who are not familiar with our organization, we are focused on the
use of technology to support the ability of people with disabilities to
live independently. This overarching mission takes multiple separate
forms. Those on this list may be aware that our policy team works
primarily before the California Public Utilities Commission to support
reliable and affordable access to vital services including electricity and
broadband. This has included a lot of work in support of low-income
communities generally, as well as efforts to regulate ride-hailing services
(Lyft and Uber), work to support the availability of speech-generating
devices to allow people to access telecommunications, support for
eliminating utility debt accumulated during the Covid crisis, and many
other items that may not immediately come to mind when you think about
utilities. This work is similar in many ways to the complex litigation
that is the focus of many DRBA members, except that proceedings have
numerous parties and take place in an administrative setting. We also have
a web accessibility team that works with other nonprofits, government
agencies and private companies on compliance with web accessibility
standards, including a unique tester bank that focuses on real-world
usability. And we have AT specialists who provide direct services,
primarily to students, to ensure that they have access to adaptive
equipment and other necessary support. We are looking for someone with a
background in one of these areas and an interest in the others, as well as
an openness to additional concepts that may come up in the future to
advance our overall mission.

Applications are being accepted now. Please feel free to distribute these
materials further.

Thanks.

Melissa
