Hello Charlotte,

Do you have IR capabilities for the classroom or do you have FM systems available for loan? We use Williams AV<https://williamsav.com/> here.

Have you tried Petralex<https://petralex.pro/en> on Android/iOS devices? It’s an app that’s meant for hard of hearing individuals to help convince them that hearing aids may be needed. There is a subscription for this service after a 1 week trial.

Otter<https://otter.ai/home> can be somewhat good, but it’s not something that I would recommend to replace CART. It is great for after hour events which may not have captioning available.

AVA<https://www.ava.me/> (Audio Video Accessibility) is an app that provides automated captioning or CART which you may want to consider. There are plans for their CART services.

Have the student sign up with Innocaption.com<https://www.innocaption.com/> ASAP. It’s captioning for the DHOH users on mobile devices and is free for personal use. They do have the potential to use it for Zoom lectures where other students are attending remotely, but illegal to use if the DHOH student is the only remote attendee.

So glad there’s more options now than 10 years ago.

Best,

Subject: [Athen] Recommendations on devices to help with hearing with in a classroom setting
Hello All!

I am in need of some help and I am hoping you all can help me.

I'm working with a student who has severe hearing loss in both ears and they have not yet been set up with hearing aids.
They're having a very hard time hearing the professor and the conversation around them.

This is new territory for me and for the student as well.

So I'm looking for any recommendations on devices or free apps that can help the student within the classroom setting?

Thank you in advance for all of your help and recommendations

Best Regards,
Charlotte
