Microbes are often essential for plant growth, providing nutrients, pathogen resistance, and increased tolerance to stress. Other microbes can cause plant diseases.  Through weekly seminars, students will learn about the spectrum of plant-microbe interactions.  More details at course site.

ESRM 489 THE RAINFOREST MICROBIOME (Early Autumn 2024):

This immersive Study Abroad course takes place in Costa Rica for 2 weeks followed by 1 week in our Olympic Rainforests.  Ideal for students interested in plant microbiology in graduate school, this course provides hands-on opportunities in the early stages of research,  from ecosystem-level observations and hypothesis formulation to microbiology experimentation and genomic studies.
