Hi Melissa,

I don't know if you ever received any responses, but one thing that came to
mind was a project being done (years and years ago) at the University of
Nebraska-Lincoln, where they were converting handwritten manuscripts of
poems to machine-readable text, including all the edits and erasures and
marginalia and stuff. Brian Pytlik Zillig
<https://cdrh.unl.edu/about/faculty/pytlik_zillig> was heavily involved in
it, so he might be able to talk about a good way of representing margalia
in a machine-readable format? (it's a long shot, but I thought it might
help.)

Thanks,
D.
