Doing Design to Design Awareness: What is your Design Signature

Friday, January 27th | 2:30 – 4:30pm | HCDE Design Lab – Sieg Hall 233

Design is a fundamental aspect of engineering practice – whether it be designing a bridge, developing an app, or creating innovative wearable technologies. Every time you engage in a design project, formally or informally, you create a tracing of your design process activities that you could call a “design signature”. Design signatures vary across different types of design projects, with different goals, constraints, and deliverables. An aspirational “design signature” represents a tracing of a design process you seek to emulate in future design projects. It can also serve as a personal reminder, guiding you towards becoming a better designer. In this workshop we will explore broad aspects of design processes, highlighting research on design expertise and the multitude of design model representations. You will also have the opportunity to create or refine your own personal design signature.

Refreshments will be provided following the workshop. Questions, comments, or concerns? Please contact Cathryne Jordan at uwwise at uw.edu <mailto:uwwise at uw.edu> or Courtney McKee at lsamp at uw.edu <mailto:lsamp at uw.edu> .

LSAMP Scientist Program – Please share with Faculty you think might be interested in joining

Join us to learn how you can become a part of the LSAMP Scientist Program. A program that has faculty mentor students in research. These students will have little to no research experience, but this will allow them to get their foot in the door. If you cannot mentor a student, there are still plenty of ways for you to be a part of our program.

Information Sessions

* Friday, January 13th from 2 - 3pm
* Friday, February 17th from 2 - 3pm

Location: Zoom
